Account Trading Scams: Buying and Selling Game Accounts

Buying a high-rank BGMI or Free Fire account that gets reclaimed a week later — or selling your account and never receiving payment. Gaming account fraud is rampant and almost impossible to recover from. Here is how both sides of this scam work.

What Is This Scam?

Game account trading violates most games' Terms of Service but a large black market exists. Scammers operate on both sides — sellers who take payment and reclaim the account via support, and buyers who receive the account and then reverse the payment or disappear.

How It Works

  1. 1Scammer lists a high-rank account at an attractive price on Telegram or Instagram.
  2. 2Buyer pays via UPI after seeing screenshots.
  3. 3Seller hands over login credentials.
  4. 4Seller contacts game support claiming their account was hacked and gets it back.
  5. 5Buyer is left with no account and no refund.

⚠ Red Flags to Watch For

  • Seller refuses to use a trusted middleman or escrow service
  • Unusually cheap price for a high-rank account
  • Seller pressures quick payment before you can verify the account
  • Only screenshots provided — no live video proof
  • Seller has no reviews or history on trading forums

What to Do If You Are Targeted

Avoid account trading entirely as it violates game Terms of Service and your own account may be banned. If you have been scammed, file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in. Game companies will not assist with recovery since trading violates their ToS, making prevention the only reliable option.

✅ Stay Safe Checklist

  • Account trading violates most games' ToS and your account can be banned
  • Never pay for an account without a verified escrow service
  • Verify the account live on a video call before any payment
  • Screenshots can be faked — insist on a live screen share
  • The safest option is always to play on your own account
