Telegram groups promise guaranteed 10x returns through stock tips, crypto signals, or trading bots. These are Ponzi schemes designed to drain your savings. Here is how to identify and avoid them.
What Is This Scam?
Fraudulent Telegram channels and groups claim to offer “insider” stock tips, crypto trading signals, or automated trading bots that generate daily returns of 5–10%. Early members are paid using money from new joiners — a classic Ponzi structure. Once enough money is collected, the admins delete the group and disappear overnight, leaving every member with nothing.
How It Works
- 1You get added to a Telegram group by an unknown contact or discover it through a referral from someone you trust.
- 2Admin shares “proof” of returns — fake screenshots of profits and fabricated trading history that look convincing.
- 3You invest a small amount and actually receive returns, which are paid from money deposited by newer victims.
- 4Encouraged by the returns, you invest more and refer friends and family to join.
- 5Admins suddenly disappear, deleting the group and blocking all members with no warning.
⚠ Red Flags to Watch For
- Guaranteed returns — no real investment can guarantee returns
- “Limited membership” or invite-only pressure to join quickly
- Fake screenshots of profit with edited fonts or suspicious numbers
- Admin refuses to show SEBI registration or regulated broker credentials
- Requests payment to a personal UPI ID or crypto wallet rather than a regulated platform
What to Do If You Are Targeted
Stop investing immediately and attempt to withdraw any funds if the platform still allows it. Report the Telegram group to Telegram directly and file a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in. Save screenshots of all conversations and payment records before the group is deleted — these are critical evidence. File a complaint with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) at sebi.gov.in if the scam involved stock or trading claims.
✅ Stay Safe Checklist
- Never invest through unregulated Telegram groups or WhatsApp signal channels
- Verify any broker or advisor on SEBI’s registered intermediary list at sebi.gov.in
- Guaranteed returns are always a red flag — all real investments carry risk
- Never share your trading account credentials or bank OTP with anyone
- Start with zero investment — if they demand upfront payment, it is a scam
