Screen Share Scams via AnyDesk and TeamViewer

A caller claiming to be from your bank or TRAI asks you to install AnyDesk so they can help you. Within minutes they empty your bank account. This is one of the fastest-growing cyber scams in India.

What Is This Scam?

Scammers call posing as bank officers or TRAI agents claiming there is a problem with your account or SIM. They ask you to install a remote access app and share your screen. Once connected they can see your banking apps, read OTPs from your SMS, and transfer money while you watch.

How It Works

  1. 1Victim receives a call from someone claiming to be from their bank about suspicious activity.
  2. 2Caller creates urgency — your SIM will be disconnected or your account is at risk.
  3. 3Victim is asked to install AnyDesk or TeamViewer to let the agent fix the issue.
  4. 4Victim shares the session code giving scammer full screen access.
  5. 5Scammer navigates to banking apps, reads OTPs, and transfers money out.

⚠ Red Flags to Watch For

  • Unsolicited call claiming to be from your bank or TRAI
  • Being asked to install any remote access software
  • Caller asks you to share a session code or ID
  • Urgency about account suspension or legal action
  • Caller tells you not to tell anyone about this call

What to Do If You Are Targeted

Hang up immediately. Your bank and TRAI will never ask you to install remote access software. If you have already shared access, disconnect your internet immediately, close the app, and call your bank to freeze your account. File a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in and call 1930. Change all banking passwords from a different device.

✅ Stay Safe Checklist

  • Never install AnyDesk or TeamViewer on the instructions of a caller
  • Your bank will never call you asking to install software
  • If anyone asks for a session code it is always a scam
  • Keep your banking apps on a separate phone if possible
  • Enable app locks on all banking and UPI apps
